Fashion: Little Red Dress

Little Red Dress from H&M

Not all colours suit me, so when it comes to selecting my clothes, I make sure that I stick to colours I know will underline my personality and “work for me” rather than make me feel uncomfortable. As someone, who has a slight chubby figure, I barely wear white, as it makes me look fat. Same applies to mustard colours, which in combination with my (now British) pale skin makes me look weird.

That’s why I tend to stick to colours, which I know are definitely flattering me. Khaki green for example works extremely well with my eye colour and black slims my shape automatically. However, there’s one, which is my absolute go-to/must-have shade and that is RED.

This year, red is the colour of the moment. This is mainly because red stands out, it is strong, it is fresh and it makes people look interesting. Red will soon be everywhere. If you’ve keep abreast with fashion and trends, you may have noticed the trend of bare face with a red lip as highlighter, or shoes and handbags which are dominantly in burgundy and hot red shades. Toni Garn recently worn a super cute red skater dress – do I need to say more?

Red will dominate 2016

The trend colour will remain throughout the year, as it is part of the so called “Bonfire Palettes”. These include mainly earthy colours such as rust and a flaming orange. As long as the colour has a high share of red particles in it, you’ll be on the trendsetter side.

Topshop, Forever 21 and H&M are just a few worth mentioning retailers who have incorporated and push this outstanding colour in their current collections. Especially the later will release an embroidered collection in fall, dominated by red and inspired by the Gaucho look.

These days you’ll recognise me wearing my flaming red H&M coat, which I picked up in 2009. Some people have nick-named me “Red Riding Hood” but ....uh welll...that’s just pure envy. Not everyone can pull off a colour that demands all of your attention, right?

Next to a couple of red blouses (Stradivarius & Peacocks), I’ve added this super cute red lacy dress to my wardrobe. I picked it up during the Christmas sale and it came around £15 in H&M. You can easily dress it down with brown accessories as brown is a blocker colour (which means it’ll go with every colour). So if you’re ever in doubt – take to brown or creme.

Here's what I'm wearing:

Little Red Dress: H&M (current SS16 season, £13)
Bow Belt: Topshop (SS10, £25)
Satchel: Stradivarius (current SS16, &10)
Tan Leather Boots: Piccolino via Jones Bootmaker (£100)

Thank you so much for checking out today’s ootd post. Are there any colours you prefer wearing? Is red only for the brave or does it work for you, too? Do you think red can be as timeless and classy as black? I’m looking forward hearing from you.

Take care and till next time,
