Lifestyle: Life Lately In London 2

Hi everyone, how was your weekend? Did you have some time to relax and enjoy the magnificent weather? I did and I feel this has been one of my busiest weekends I had so far in London. But let’s start at the beginning.

Saturday

The morning was spent at the Rough Runner event held in Clapham Common. Our friends from Wolverhampton came down to join Alex for the 5k obstacle run in the park. Due to health reasons, I couldn’t run with them, but I still felt part of the experience as I volunteered to be their photographer. I would wait at every obstacle and then cheer and motivate them whilst taking some snaps on my Nikon. This way, I felt still involved in the action and excitement. It was also a lot of fun watching Alex struggling with the obstacles whereas our friend Pete, who is a personal fitness trainer, effortlessly managed every challenge. #cheekysmile

The afternoon was spent at the Mary Ward House in Russell Square where I attended my first London Fashion Week event. I was invited by Sheaffer who sponsored the SS16 show of Palmer // Harding. From the FROW I had a great view on the simple designs, which were mostly made out of linen. The layered dresses, flattering blouses and golden oversized hoop earrings stood out to me the most. The atmosphere was incredible. The venue was rather basic which highlighted the looks even more. The models were all super professional and would silently walk over the catwalk and then take their stand on a moveable display. They would stand there absolute still and looked like mannequins - a tiny bit creepy but also very effective. Soft, eerie music would play in the background to give the audience goose bumps. What a great show!

In the evening we had a meal at Honest Burgers in King’s Cross. I tried their special burger, a version to celebrate the Oktoberfest with Currywurst sauce and Sauerkraut. The burger was served with Rosemary spiced fries which had a pinch too much of salt for my taste.

Sunday

Alex and I strolled around our area in Bethnal Green and I now know where the famous cat café is. We had a look from the outside (the place is fully booked for the next couple of weeks, so no chance to go in) and we saw a few kitties asleep in the window. From there we walked down Brick Lane and spotted tourists, shoppers and bloggers taking ootds. Our walk finished at Boxpark where we tried a new burger place called Dirty Burger.

Dirty Burger is a London chain and serves cheeseburger, burger with bacon, a special of the day and onion fries. Alex had the special burger and onion fries and I tasted their cheeseburger. When I unwrapped my little burger parcel, a slightly greasy bun welcomed me and my first impression wasn't the best. However, the smell was incredible and one bite in, I felt like I was in food heaven. The burger was so, so tasty. It was fresh, the sauces were delicious and the meat was cooked spot on. Alex also enjoyed his burger and we both agreed to come back for more taste explosions very soon.

Later that afternoon, Alex would completely spoil me. He announced earlier this week that he had a surprise for me and it was a complete success. He booked us tickets for a special experience with Hotel Chocolat on the London Eye. Upon arrival, we received a goody bag with a box of Hotel Chocolat pralines and a guide of the London Eye. Together with three other couples we would have a private capsule and went two rounds on the Eye. On the flight we enjoyed prosecco and a representative from Hotel Chocolat would explain to us the world of chocolate. We learnt where it comes from and how they would design and craft their beautiful pralines. We would taste different chocolates from Thailand and sampled chocolate of different cacao levels. One of the samples contained 100% and I never had it before. There was no sugar in the piece and it tasted very bitter and had the consistency of dust. Luckily a millionaire shortbread praline made it into my mouth afterwards, followed by Eaton Mess and a Hazelnut praline. After the 1h flight we went back into the main building for the London Eye and would watch their 4D cinema experience. What a great afternoon!

Hotel Chocolat Experience London Eye
The tickets for the Hotel Chocolat experience cost £50 and we both agreed that we made a really good deal. A normal flight ticket for one round on the Eye would usually cost around £21. For our price we got two rounds, including a never ending supply of prosecco, chocolates on the flight and to take home, a London Eye guide and entrance to the 4D film.

Later in the afternoon we stopped at the Arcade which is next to the London Eye. We’ve been here before a few weeks ago and Alex was very keen on winning a soft toy at one of these grabbing machines. We only exchanged a few pounds and very early on, Alex got me a Frozen soft toy. YEAH!

We finished the day watching a film at the cinema. A Walk In The Woods with Nick Nolte and Robert Redford. Was ok to watch, nothing special and Redford’s character felt cold and distant but it didn’t matter in the end. Nothing beats a visit at the cinema, even if the film is rubbish.

So that was my weekend and I’m looking forward to the week ahead. I’ll do some more picture editing and will attend the FIFA16 launch event by EA Games this evening. My friend Laura invited me to join her for another London Fashion Week show on Tuesday, so I’m very looking forward to make a return to the fashion scene.
