Film: Cinema Highlights In January
Let's open the cinema year 2015 with some fantastic films. Hope you'll enjoy today's post and let me know which ones you've seen already or are excited about!
1. The Theory Of Everything 8/10
Eddie Redmayne was recently honoured with a Golden Globe award for his outstanding performance as Stephen Hawkings in The Theory Of Everything. Totally justified as his performance is absolutely magnificent and he embraces in his role in every single minute which makes his play so authentic and easy to watch. The epic biopic is light heartedly narrated and tells the life story of one of the greatest physics of our times. The acting is superb, though plot and characters lack some depth now and again, but the film still scores with powerful pictures and an emotional OST.
2. Foxcatcher 7/10
The intense drama centered around a former wrestling Olympian in the 80's offers excellent acting and superb camera perspectives. Calm and always spot on, the film is atmospheric but sometimes the plot is slowed down so much that you desperately wish they would have accelerated the narrative a tiny bit more. Carell and Tatum leave their usual cliché roles and turn out to be decent actors which could be seriously in for some Oscar nominations. Well done! However, be warned, this is not an easy to watch film, so make sure you are 'in the mood' for some heavy movie time.
3. Disney's Into The Woods 8/10
Disney's adaptation of the smash hit Broadway musical stars an awesome cast: Emily Blunt, Lucy Punch, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine and Johnny Depp do I need to say more? Meryl Streep as the wicked witch is hilarious and the first 2/3 of the film are a weird and interesting mixture of several Brother Grimm's fairy tales which makes the movie highly entertaining and funny. Sadly, as soon as the chaotic scavenger hunt of the fairy characters is over and an aggressive giant lady disturbs the woods, the film loses its charm drastically. Be prepared for some serious WTF moments on screen.
Thanks so much for reading today's post. Let me know which film you have seen or excited about! I love, read and reply to every comment!
