Lifestyle: Becca Fitzpatrick Black Ice Review. Spoiler Free.

Image
Hi ladies, if you're after a summer read with a chill to cool you down, then you should have a look at Becca Fitzpatrick's Black Ice *. If you follow my blog regularly then you know how much I love YA fiction. I usually read about teenagers with superpowers so I was pretty excited when Black Ice landed on my desk as it centers - surprise, surprise - on a normal teenager . No superpowers or a fight for the world this time but a down to earth, ordinary girl who wants to overcome the hurtful feelings of a heartbreak and seeks an adventure to help her moving on.  Before I started reading, I watched the book's trailer over on youtube to get a first impression and to get me into the mood for Black Ice. I love that more and more books are marketed with a trailer these days as it helps me a lot to get straight into its world. When reading I'm orientated less on surprise, but on the process itself that leads to the final showdown. So the more I know about events happening in th...

Lifestyle: 8 Reasons Why I Love Being German

Image
Hi ladies, the weather is magnificent and whilst I walked to work today I saw a German car with my local area code parked in Cheltenham. Though I didn’t know its driver, it somehow made me happy. It’s nice to know when someone from home is so close. I was thinking about home and everyone enjoying the summer weather and got a bit homesick. Though I love the UK, my home country isn’t that bad actually. The idea for an expat blog post was born and here it is, why I think my country is an awesome place to live*. 1. The Weather Summer Thanks to our ruthless lifestyle that contributes actively to the global warming effect each year, Germany is blessed with hot and long summers. I speak of 35 degrees and above. It is always warm and sunny and you can be sure that air conditioners in public libraries and malls break down on a regular basis. Sometimes it gets so hot that people have to stay indoors, but at the same time it is unbearable in your flat too so you face a conflict of where to go rea...

Lifestyle: A Visit To London's Sky Garden

Image
Hi ladies, without reading the amazing post from Louise , I would have never discovered this place - a garden high above the roofs of London. Sky Garden in Fenchurch Street is the new on trend address for chillaxed drinks in a stylish and exclusive environment.  From the top floor of London’s Walkie Talkie you’ll get breath-taking views. It’s a green zone overlooking the Thames, Tower and many more iconic landmarks. Given the fact that the Shard just on the opposite bankside charges £30 to enjoy the view, Sky Garden is for free but you’ll need to book your tickets early on. The tickets are available two weeks in advance and I booked my visit for the first weekend in May. I invited friends to come along as you can register up to six visitors. The easiest way to get to Fenchurch Street is to get off the tube at Monument. From there it is a 5 minute walk to the impressive business building. Sky Garden have a separate entry and an airport security procedure. After we got security chec...

Fashion: Festival Jewellery By Touchstone

Image
Hi ladies, Radio One's Big Weekend on the bank holiday officially opened the festival season and it is time to get our cute floral headbands and 70's inspired fringe accessories out. With regards to jewellery, aztec remains a must-have for me and in today's post I'd like to show you some of my picks that I'll be taking with me to the up-coming Glastonbury Festival. I was recently contacted by Touchstone, a company that supplies High Street retailers such as Select, New Look or Debenhams with fashion jewellery. My special package contained some super sparkly treats such as gold bangles and geometric necklaces which I'm going to show you now in more detail. 1. Five Row Gold Hoops, £3 at Select And Red Bead Stretch Bracelet Pack, £5 at Select* Gold is a massive trend colour this summer and these bangles are super sparkly. They fit nicely around my wrist and they are adjustable, so they can also be worn by people with smaller wrists. The red bead stretch bracelet pa...

Lifestyle: School Lessons vs 'The Real World'

Image
Hi ladies, it's been 10 years since I went through my A-Levels and I thought it might be the right time for a little light-hearted reflection on the many lessons which I've learnt in school and how they've worked out in 'the real world' aka life. This is a very light-hearted post and you don't have to agree to any of it, I just wanted to reflect on my school life and be a bit nostalgic about it. Hope you'll have fun and let me know what school has taught you and how it has turned out in your adult life. Maths School lesson: Use the formula for a linear way to the solution. This is the fastest, safest and most efficient way to do it.  Life version: Many ways that turn out as long-winded detours will lead you to the solution. Be prepared for some some serious WTF obstacles though and sometimes you may have to start all over again, but eventually (and with a lot of compromise and sacrifice) you'll get to the solution. English / Foreign Language s School les...

Film: Cinema Highlights In May

Image
Hi ladies, yeah the bank holiday is finally here and there's time for us to head down to the movies and catch up on some great films. I can't wait! Let me know if you're going to see a movie (or two, or three) and hope you'll enjoy today's film post.  Far From The Madding Crowd  7/10   Who says only city people face intrigue, drama and love triangle problems? Far From The Madding Crowd is a spectacular and ostentatious film adaptation of Hardy’s Victorian novel starring an A-List cast of Carrey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen and Tom Sturridge. It centres on strong independent Batsheba (Mulligan) who rises to wealth through a generous inheritance. A confident, beautiful and rich woman of course attracts lots of attention so she’ll soon find herself vowed by not just one (Schoenaerts), but three admirers (Sturridge and Sheen). If you love period drama and adaptations of epic British literature, than FFTMC is for you. For anyone else, the 2h film of emot...

Lifestyle: 3 Things I'm Looking Forward To This Weekend

Image
Hi ladies, we're blessed with another bank holiday this month. Yeah! I'm so excited for this long weekend. Hope you are too? What are your plans? Well, here are mine. 1. I'm going to use the holiday to get some writing work done. I'm currently working on an application that requires me to hand in a feature, opinion piece and a news snippet by Monday midnight. So far I have my topic 'Identification and Immigration in the UK' all set up and researched. A first draft has been created for the feature but I need some ideas for the opinion piece. The news snippet will be fairly easy as it will only require 2-3 sentences answering the 4-w and 1-h question. This task will keep me busy and creative all weekend long. 2. Tonight is Eurovision! I'm such a nerdy fan, but only since I've moved out from home (OMG it comes to 11 years this year!). As a kid my parents always made me watch it and I hated it. And what have I done ever since I left their nest? I watched it....
